In our Advanced Point & Shoot 101 course we will show you how to lessen your dependence on your camera's Automatic mode and gain greater control over the quality of your photographs. We will explore effective focus techniques and settings for changing the brightness and colour of your photos. In addition, we will explain when and how to use the camera's built-in flash and how ISO can help you get results in low light scenes. During the session you will be using your own camera under the guidance of our instructor to become more comfortable with your camera and the controls essential to everyday photography.

I really enjoyed this course. There was only 2 of us in the class so it went by fast. We did go over the menus of the cameras but it was fast and there was a few things that I didn't know but found out. I won't have to use the auto setting anymore. It really is great class for beginners or if ALL you shot in is auto and want to learn more. The instructor was amazing at the Henry's on Regent in Winnipeg. The only thing was that they didn't have me down on the list but that was the fault of head office. Good thing I had access to my email to prove I had an order number and had paid for it.(that's why it's only 4 stars) Now I just need to get out and start taking pictures!!

I took the Advanced Point and Shoot 101 with the hopes of getting a better grasp on how to control the outcome of my photography using the manual features of my point and shoot camera. What I got was 2 hours of reviewing how to use the menu system (incredibly basic stuff for anyone who is even a little bit familiar with camera functions and computers) and about 45 minutes of instruction on how to use the features to take photographs. The instructor was great, she knew her stuff, but the course material was definitely geared toward older folk who don't really know their way around modern technology. We spent too much time on things like how to delete photos, zoom in to photos while reviewing them and other really basic features. The course was recommended to me by Henry's staff (over email and in person), but I feel I would have benefited much, much more from the 201 or composition course. Bottom line: recommended if you feel like you have no idea what you're doing with a digital camera, otherwise, read the manual and take a look at more advanced courses.
