Super Cool-Just the kick in pants I needed!!!!!!!!!

Well done Henry's SOI and a special thanx to your instructor, Trevor in Ottawa. This course was precisely what I needed to tear myself away from the dreaded "auto" function. The course material was well thought out, very informative, layman based for a budding amateur and incentive driven to learn even more. The weekly assignments are key and really get you thinking about the image that you want to capture, not to mention applying just the right amount of theory to understanding the basic mechanics of DSLR camera, lens and optic fundamentals in the progression of producing a satisfying end result. After the first class, I found myself obsessed with learning all I could for the duration of the course; which by the way, hasn’t stopped, and I’m loving this “seeing everything as a picture” evolution. Interacting with the other participants is also refreshing, as the “I’m not the only newbie” feeling quickly dissipated and made sharing concepts and ideas exhilarating. Again, kudos to the SOI for making this a great experience, one that will require continuing with further courses.
Ciao,

Excellant for taking the leap from point and shoot

Like everyone, I've had my share of point and shoot digital cameras. Each new iteration included more and more of the creative controls /features normally found on DSLR's. But not knowing how to use any of those controls, I usually picked Automatic or a Scene mode. I've always wanted to take the step to DSLR but I feared that without the knowledge, my shots would get worse, not better.
This course teaches you everything you need to know to gain control over your photos. I learned a great deal of very useful information that I was able to apply immediately with excellent results. I took a 2 week trip to Italy and fired off 3000+ shots, using a very useful feature "bracketing". This literally saved my bacon. I also learned how to maximize the light coming into the camera so I could take low light photos in museums and churches where flashbulbs are either discouraged or prohibited.
Terms like White Balance, Aperature, ISO, Diopter and Exposure compensation are no longer a mystery.
I saw alot of people in Italy with $5000 camera's firing flashes in Museums, and also banging their glasses into their viewfinders ! Too bad they didn't take this Henry's course !!
