  • An Excellent Course for the Point and Shoot Beginner!

  • May 08, 2017
  • By: Dan

I purchased a Sony RX100 IV point and shoot camera last year and thought I could learn the different features on my own. However, after studying the downloadable guide and using it on a couple of different vacations, I still wasn't getting the photo quality I wanted in my pictures and I was uncomfortable taking it out of "auto". As I purchased my camera from Henry's in Barrie, I went online and found they offered the Point and Shoot 101 course and the online registration was easy. I didn't have to wait long for the course and just completed it on the weekend,,,,WOW,,,,was it worth it, hands down one of the best courses I have ever taken! Our instructor's name was Elliott and he was a professional photographer. Our class size was small and the way he presented the material during the course was amazing. I initially thought that the topics would be way over my head, but Elliott made everything very understandable and ensured everyone's questions were answered before he carried on with his presentation. He also gave us extra tips on top of what was offered in the course. This is a definite "must do" course for anyone who is new to photography and wants to gain a good working knowledge of their point and shoot camera. I now have the knowledge and confidence to take my camera out of "auto" mode and know the tricks on how to make my future pictures come alive!

Attended Beginner Point and Shoot class in Dartmouth. Instructor was Matt. Found the course content to be excellent and very useful. Wish I had taken the course sooner, as provided very helpful information on the basics of my camera and appreciated being able to address any problem areas I was experiencing. The instructor was very personable, knowledgeable and I will highly recommend this course to family members and friends. Fact the notes also available on line an added bonus. Course exceeded my expectations!

Excellent information and hands on learning. Thanks to the instructor, Courtney, I learned a lot about my camera. I would recommend this course to anyone who is new to Point & Shoot cameras. Courtney was very easy to follow, (notes can be downloaded after the course is over). I learned not just the basics but a few very handy tips for excellent pictures. I would like to suggest that once we are registered in the course we can download the course notes so that we can use the notes to write down our particular thoughts and ideas during the course. I finished this course with a lot of confidence in my future picture-taking. Thanks Henry's and Courtney.

  • An absolute must take course!

I heard about these courses from my sister and decided to take this course. I have had my camera foe awhile and this course was long over due. I learned so much from this course. Very informative. The instructor took time and spent time with each student to make sure they understood the operation of their camera. Now I can go beyond the auto feature and take much better pictures. Just wish I took this course sooner. Highly recommended and a must take course.

I bought a new camera a few weeks ago and before that I used my iPhone to take my pictures. I didn't know anything other than setting the camera on Auto and shooting. I knew there was more to it so I signed up for this course. I was not disappointed in any way. Bill was our instructor and he helped us out with all of our inquiries. The notes are provided for you afterward so there's no need to sit and write notes during the class, you can work through all the settings on your camera while you?re there so you get a feel for it. I am so much more comfortable now with my camera. I can't wait to get out there and experiment with the different settings I've been shown. It makes a big difference when you know what can be accomplished. I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to catch those shots that just aren't working in Auto. I'll be taking more advanced classes in the near future. Thanks for everything.

This course started me off on the right foot! I had expected to just set everything to AUTO ... but after the three hours were up, I had learned so much about the program features, ensuring that I'd be able to produce high-quality photos in any challenging light situation. The instructor, Andr, was knowledgable, animated and enthusiastic, which made learning even more pleasurable than I had expected. My only issue is the Henry's website ... It's not user-friendly ... I'm encountering difficulty locating the course notes!

  • Great Course, Great Instructor!!

Having taken pictures for years on "Auto" I am certainly still a beginner photographer. With a new point and shoot for Christmas, I decided to take this workshop and I am so glad I did! Duke was the instructor. Not only was he a very likeable fellow who shared his vast knowledge through an easy-going teaching style, he was obviously also an excellent and passionate photographer. The workshop presentation was concise and informative as he covered the various topics. Of course, Duke was full of directions on how to take better pictures by using the various camera settings, but he also offered plenty of suggestions on how to take advantage of new and improved camera equipment to make your picture-taking produce even better results, easier. This course was money and time very well spent, and I am sure my pictures will prove it. Thank you very much, Duke!

I've been taking pictures for years wondering why some looked great while others didn't. I was looking for consistency through knowledge. In 3 hrs I learned more than my years of hit and miss photography. I feel more confident now to travel and to take more consistent pictures that will tell a story, evoke memories and emotion. While I won't be procuring jobs as a photographer, I know now how I can take better, impressive pictures with my point & shoot. Thanks Robert, great class!

  • Point and Shoot Review

I took the Point and Shoot photography course this past Saturday in Brantford. The instructor Christine was awesome. She took us step by step trhough the power point presentation always checking to see if we had questions and to make sure our cameras were set properly or we understood the various settings. It was very hands on and I felt no question that I asked was a stupid one. I would highly recommend this course. I have some photography experience and just purchased a Nikon Coolpix P100. I tried the manual and just experimenting myself but found out just by taking this course about so many different settings and working with light and not using a flash. I have printed all of my notes and know they will aid me in taking beautiful photos. Thanks Christine!

  • Point & Shoot Basics... PLUS!

  • June 03, 2010
  • By: Lorraine

Having used my camera for a little over a year, I feared being bored by "basics". Well, I was SO wrong! This workshop more than exceeded my expectations... I tried going through the manual, but Andre (our instructor) just made it all so simple. NOW I can understand the manual. I not only learned where to find all the different settings, but how to use them for all the wonderful photos I have seen others take with non-DSLR cameras. We did have a short break, which gave others the opportunity to stay and get more one on one. I have just printed out the workshop notes to keep as a reference, and I am just so stoked to go out and try it all out!!! Definitely worth every last penny, and would highly recommend to anyone still shooting in Auto, or even Scenes!

  • Great comprehensive class

When I take a class, I'm usually pretty happy if I can take away two or three new ideas or pieces of information and put them to good use. With this class, I got so much more! Our instructor Phil was incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. He was able to teach us about many of the functions of our cameras -- and it didn't matter what brand you had, Phil knew them all. I was very impressed. I took many notes and have just downloaded the class notes to help me remember everything. I really look forward to playing with all the new "tools" I have and taking some better pictures. This class was worth every penny. My only criticism was that there was no break in the class, making the 3 hours feel very long. It was hard to retain everything by the end. Make sure you take some water and a snack to keep you going.

  • Quite basic

  • June 24, 2014
  • By: Heather

This course was great, however it is quite basic. If you have already played around with your camera, this may be too basic of a class for you. We did learn about ISO which was good, but otherwise it was how to auto focus, how to use flash and turn it off and on, how to delete photos, how to format memory card, and how to access the menu options on your camera, etc. Also, if you have a DSLR camera this may not be the course for you. Check into the DSLR intro class instead or ask a Henry's staff member to direct you to a class that would suit you best. Everyone in my class had a small point and shoot and was brand new to photography. I am new to my DSLR but have experience taking general photos with a small point and shoot. I was recommended this course by a Henry's sales rep in a store, but it was the wrong skill level for me. Just something to be aware of. If you are a true beginner, this would be a good class as it covers a variety of basic functions to get you started. Instructor (Christine) was great. Didn't feel like 2.75 hours passed either. Very informative and hands on.
